Spencer Troseth has created a “True Piece of Art” from a tree in his home town.

                                                                                                    Sept/26/2016 Holden Utah

Spencer Troseth a local that grew up in Holden Utah, has created a beautiful coffee table out of an Elm tree that came from his own home town. Three years ago Spencer, his dad, and his brothers got a hold of a very special chain saw that allowed them to cut slabs out of a tree with a six-foot base, that they were pulling out of their back yard. Three years passed as it was allowed to dry, until it was ready for Spencer to work on. Once it was time, Spencer turned the extremely large piece of “fire wood” into a work of art. And to think he did it all within his own backyard.

The “Elm Log Coffee Table” is truly something to see. It sits at the average height of an ordinary coffee table. The slab is three inches thick, three feet wide, and for feet long, that sits on top of a piece of cliff rose, that came from the mountains behind his house. The top of the table is beautifully finished with an epoxy resin that makes the wood grain come to life, along with the “keyed in” pine butterfly’s. One can’t help but count the rings in the wood and ponder about all the years that tree spent his back yard, and just how many activities happened around the base of that old tree it.

What drove him to spend so many hours making this table? Well besides his love for wood work, the Edge program at SUU had something to do with it. As Spencer has been completing his education he has been completing the Edge program which has helped and motivated Spencer to complete this project. Not only that but it has provided Spencer with something tangible as he is entering the job market that can really help set him apart, and let future potential employers know just what he is capable of.  ###
